Launch day is almost here. We will be leaving WSVH after 6th Period class on Thursday and expect to be in Sheboygan before 6:00 PM. We will be shopping at a local grocery store there for meals and snacks, including supplies for packing lunches. A few extra swim passes will be available for some family members to join us at the indoor swim park on Thursday and Friday evenings. We will be staying at one of the condos associated with Blue Harbor Resort. After the water park closes on Thursday night (8:00 PM), the team will show their presentation to Ms. Mulligan and Mr. Gamble. Lights out at 10:00.
Friday will be a busy day of registering, setting up displays, listening to guest speakers, and prepping. We should arrive at the conference room at about 7:30 AM to register and settle in. We have a table reserved for us just behind and to the right of the speaker's platform. We would be an obvious and unwelcome distraction if we arrive late while there is a speaker on the platform. After a welcoming ceremony and some opening speeches, students will have time to check out displays from other teams and booths around out on the floor. Our team is part of the Ares group. Our presentation in front of our display is scheduled for 11:00 AM. The next obligatory event will be to be seated for speakers at 1:00 PM. That will include a presentation by a NASA astronaut. There will be more time to observe displays and booths between 2:30 and 4:00. At 4:00, we are debriefed and trained for tomorrow's events. Expect to be released from the conference hall about 4:30. We can go back to the condo, freshen up, and eat before going to the water park. I expect the water park to close at 8:00. Lights out at 10:00.
Expect to arrive back at the convention hall around 8:00 AM. Wakeup, dress, shower, eat breakfast, and clean up so we can leave the condo about 7:50 AM. Opening announcements occur at 8:30 AM. There is a planned schedule but there are often changes due to weather or other things that organizers can't control. Keep an eye on launches and an ear for announcements for schedule changes. After 8:45, we should have more time for visiting displays. This may be a good time to visit the Armory if you didn't get there yesterday. I suggest that you get your passbook fully stamped and turned in before the end of the morning. Whatever you do, be sure to be at your station for your support role by 11:30 AM. It would be best for you to be there about 10 minutes before your shift. You are part of the Ares group which provides support for the special launches. So keep an ear out for announcements regarding special launches. Your next assigned activity is rocket preparation at 1:45 PM. Again, this time can easily change. Pay attention! Your rocket is scheduled to launch between 2:30 and 3:15. You are team number 609. Immediately after our group launches, we will have the awards ceremony and final announcements. Plan to adjourn at 4:30 after door prizes are awarded.
Please contact me if you have any questions about our schedule.
